Suzette Terry
An active artist in the South Central Ontario art scene since graduating from the University of Guelph in 1990 with an Honors Degree in Fine Art and Business. Having spent her early years in the historically picturesque town of Fergus, eleven in Port Stanley, two in Kitchener, she now resides in beautiful Meaford.
You will undoubtedly be impressed with her scope of expression. Not only does her subject matter range from figurative to vibrant abstract pursuits, but her mediums also follow suit, ranging from paintings in both oil and acrylic, to printmaking and animated mixed-media collages. It is this shifting of gears from one medium to the next that spurs Suzette to new and innovative discoveries in both technique and content. With bold form, her powerful paintings are rich in hues and the viewer will be aware of how she has built on her influences: the colours of the Fauves, the abstraction of Picasso, and the simplicity of Mattise. Suzette as of late has been working on collages without a preconceived notion of the end result. Allowing the imagery to appear, drawing on the subconscious element. This method starts with collaging hand-painted papers and building on the forms that appear and blocking out others to create clarity. It also allows for spontaneity of imagery and many surprises in Suzette’s work. Subject matter ranges from images of sailing, her favourite pastime to beach themes and all things in between.
At the close of 2014, Suzette has had 18 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous juried and group shows. Her work can be found in private and public collections in Canada, the United States, England, Australia, and China.
